Show Description:
Biloxi Blues continues the journey of Eugene Morris Jerome and centers on the experiences of Eugene and a diverse group of soldiers-in-training as they go through boot camp in Biloxi, Mississippi during World War II. The play takes a heartfelt yet humorous look at the group of young men and their experiences with their hard-nosed, manic drill Sergeant.
ALL ROLES ARE AVAILABLE
It should be noted that all actors playing the soldiers must possess some physical stamina and must be comfortable playing a scene in just underwear.
They must also be willing to cut their hair appropriately.
Don’t be surprised if 5 pushups are required at auditions.
Arnold Epstein, Male: to play 18-20 yrs old. Jewish, has standard NYC accent. He’s sensitive, well-read, and highly intelligent. He’s weak in body, but strong in mind, and has developed a strong will and skill when dealing with aggressors and bullies. He may not know it, but he’s a survivor and instinctively challenges the norms.
Don Carney, Male: to play 18-20 yrs old. He’s from New Jersey. He’s indecisive and contradictory at times, but a good guy none-the-less. More street smarts than book smarts, but he’d do whatever was needed for his friends and family. He loves music and singing.
Eugene Morris Jerome, Male: to play 18-20 yrs old. Jewish, has standard NYC accent. He’s never strayed too far from “the neighborhood”. He’s good natured, but a bit naïve. Has a good moral compass, but struggles in tense situations to do the right thing. He always tries to keep the peace, even if that circumvents his own viewpoint.
Joseph Wykowski, Male: to play 18-20 yrs old. Polish, from Bridgeport, Connecticut. Typical red-blooded American jock. Dependable under pressure and is a good soldier. He’s insensitive and lacks culture, but at times displays leadership qualities.
Roy Selridge, Male: to play 18-20 yrs old. He’s from Schenectady, New York. He thinks he has a terrific sense of humor, but doesn’t. He’s very crass and is uneducated and it shows. He’s a social misfit. Class clown best sums him up. He seeks acceptance and validation from others, especially from those he looks up to.
James Hennesy, Male: to play 18-20 yrs old, Irish and African American descent, but looks 100% Irish. He’s level headed, well informed, and is generally liked. Good natured and well rounded. Comes from a good family who he’s very close with. He calls it like he sees it and will always stand up for what’s right.
Sgt. Toomey, Male: to play 30’s to 50’s. He was baptized in the fire of discipline and order. He is self-righteous and has dedicated his life’s purpose to one singular word….”victory”… moral victory, spiritual victory, victory over temptation, victory on the battlefield, and lastly, victory in the barracks and boot camp.
Rowena, Female: to play 18-35 yrs old. She’s a hustler, wise beyond her years. She’s a chameleon of manipulation and sincerity who allows each person she interacts with to think that they were seeing “the real her.” She’ll be whomever she needs to be to get that money.
Daisy Hannigan, Female: to play 18-20 yrs old. She’s from Chicago, but doesn’t have an accent. She is pretty, sweet, delicate, witty, charming, well-read, and smart. She attends an all-girls Catholic school and has strong beliefs that she will not bend on.
**Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.**
