Alabama Department of Tourism’s “Sweet Home Alabama” Visitors Guide- Casting Local Models

Alabama Department of Tourism’s “Sweet Home Alabama” visitors guide, a glossy magazine published annually that highlight’s the state’s most picturesque and noteworthy locations. 


We need models for this photo shoot on Thursday, July 8, for about 2 hours or 2.5 hours.

We will likely begin the shoot about 4 p.m., *when the lighting is best.



The photos would show the family walking on the National Park’s trails and stopping to view the park’s overlooks.

They will need to be dressed for:

a day of walking/hiking, with appropriate hiking shoes (boots or Tevas or something like that),

possible pair of binoculars and/or a day hiking pack/water bottle.



We are looking for a family, hopefully two adults and two middle-school or elementary-school age children, or young teenagers.

Families with 3-4 members accepted/ preferred!

Theatre Tuscaloosa Auditions for Upcoming Production of, “Motherhood Out Loud!”

Performances

This production will be presented as a live, virtual performance on ShowTix4U.

  • May 7 @ 7:00 p.m.
  • May 8 @ 7:00 p.m.
  • May 9 @ 2:00 p.m.

When entrusting the subject of motherhood to such a dazzling collection of celebrated American writers, what results is a joyous, moving, hilarious, and altogether thrilling theatrical event. Utterly unpredictable, Motherhood Out Loud shatters traditional notions about parenthood, unveils its inherent comedy and celebrates the deeply personal truths that span and unite generations.

Auditions

*Since this production will be presented as a live, virtual show, those who audition must have a dependable access to the internet for rehearsals and performances. 

Auditions will be conducted remotely, via Zoom. Auditionees will choose a time slot from one of the following days to audition:

  • Monday, February 22, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, February 23, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Actors should be prepared to read from a side.

We are looking for 4-5 women and 1-2 men of any background, race, and gender, aged 13-90. Most actors will play multiple characters. Character list is available below!

Rehearsals are scheduled to begin March 1st. Rehearsals will be held via Zoom on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The final rehearsal schedule will be published after casting.

This play contains adult language and mature material. Viewer discretion is advised.

Scene/Character Descriptions

Chapter 1, Scene 1: Fast Births Fugue

A: Any age, any race. Mom in labor, with 5th child, arguing with the nurse about whether or not she’s actually in labor.
B: Any age, any race. Mom in labor giving birth to her 1st child. [likely also “odd mom”]
C: Any age, any race. Mom having her 3rd child, breech birth.

Chapter 1, Scene 2: Squeeze, Hold, Release

Any age, any race. Mom who just had a baby, trying to get her parents back in the car and gone, but her mother gives some…interesting advice.

Chapter 1, Scene 3: Next to the Crib

Any age, any race. Mom is trying to sleep next to her son’s crib on the floor since her husband is sick, lamenting the months of no-sleep.

Chapter 1, Scene 4: New in Motherhood

ODD MOM: Any age, any race. A woman who is not your typical stay-at-home mom shares her trouble relating to other moms while she smokes and watches her son at the park. 
MOM 1: Any age, any race. Is a suburban housewife mom.
MOM 2: Any age, any race. Is a suburban housewife mom.

Chapter 2, Scene 1: First Day Fugue

A: Any age, any race. Mom excited to finally have time to herself accidentally sexts her FIL instead of her husband.
B: Any age, any race. [most likely ‘A’ from 1.1] Mom having trouble saying goodbye to 5th child as she goes into school.
C: Any age, any race. Mom wants to walk her daughter into school, but daughter and principal brush her off.

Chapter 2, Scene 2: Queen Esther

Jewish, any age: Mom relates the story of the moment she embraced her young trans-daughter’s wishes. 

Chapter 2, Scene 3: Baby Bird

WOMAN: Any age, non-Asian. Mom shares her frustrations with people’s reactions to one of her children being adopted and the other being biological.
STRANGER: Any age, any race. A frustrating person.
STRANGE KID: Any age, any race. When kids aren’t taught about adoption.

Chapter 2, Scene 4: If We’re Using a Surrogate, How Come I’m the One with Morning Sickness?

Any age, any race. A gay man talks about his journey to parenthood and his frustrations with people assuming a hetero-normative relationship to his daughter.

Chapter 3, Scene 1: Sex Talk Fugue

A: Any age, any race. Her daughter has her first bra fitting.
B: Any age, any race. Her son is listening to a rap song that mentions the “clitoris”.
C: Any age, any race. Her daughter needs to learn how to put a condom on a banana.

Chapter 3, Scene 2: Nooha’s List

ANEESI: Muslim-Arabic, any age. Mom comforts her daughter about getting her first period while she laughs at her daughter’s “Victims of Velocity: Things Mom Threw at Us While In a Fit of Rage, A Catalogue of Madness” list. 
NOOHA: Age 13-30, any race. (offscreen throughout) The daughter who gets frustrated trying to get her mom to say “Facebook,” “MySpace,” and “Twitter” properly.

Chapter 3, Scene 3: My Almost Family

Any age, any race. A woman laments the time she was almost a mother to two stepdaughters.

Chapter 3, Scene 4: Michael’s Date

Any age, any race. A mom tries to help her autistic son be a better companion on his first date, while not losing all the progress they’d made so far.

Chapter 4, Scene 1: Graduation Day Fugue

A: Any age, any race. Talking about how her daughter wants to wear a bikini under her graduation gown.
B: Any age, any race. Talking about how her daughter doesn’t want to go to graduation.
C: Any age, any race. Talking about how her son is procrastinating on writing his valedictorian speech.
C’s HUSBAND: Any age, any race. Won’t stop asking if son has written his speech yet.

Chapter 4, Scene 2: Threesome

Any age, any race. A woman talks about silence that enveloped the house after her musical son leaves for college.

Chapter 4, Scene 3: Bridal Shop

FLORENCE: Any age, any race. Wants to be close to her DIL in an attempt to “not lose her son”.
RISA: Any age, any race. Tries to council Florence while waiting for her daughter to arrive at the shop.

Chapter 4, Scene 4: Stars and Stripes

Any age, any race. A mother describes the recurring nightmare she’s had since her son was sent overseas to war.

Chapter 5, Scene 1:

A: Any age, any race. Mom tries to cope with daughter bringing her militantly-vegetarian boyfriend to Thanksgiving.
B: Any age, any race. Mom describes her perfect anti-Thanksgiving.
C: Any age, any race. No one asks Mom her plans for Thanksgiving as they all tell her they won’t be there this year.
D: Any age, any race. Mom/[Dad from 2.4] preps a helpful box to send to their daughter who is taking over Thanksgiving prep.

Chapter 5, Scene 2: Elizabeth

Any age, any race. A son talks about how he has moved in with his mother after his divorce, and how he tries to help her through the onset of her dementia. 

Chapter 5, Scene 3: Report on Motherhood

GREAT-GRANDDAUGHTER: Age 13-30, any race. A young girl who is writing a report on motherhood and interviewing her great-grandmother.
GREAT-GRANDMOTHER: Age 60+, any race. An older woman who answers her great-granddaughter’s questions, lamenting that she was forced to have children and trying to impart on her great-granddaughter to embrace the modern privilege of birth control.

Chapter 5, Scene 4: My Baby

Any age, any race. A new mom tells her daughter the story of how she was born and the clash she had with her mother right afterward.
