This episodic song cycle tells the History of Hampton Roads in a way you’ve never heard it before. Using rap, jazz, gospel, and rhythm & blues, we hear stories and meet characters foundational to who we are today.

About the Creators:

Ronvé O’Daniel is a songwriter, lyricist, composer, playwright, and rapper. He was the recent participant in the TheatreWorks Silicon Valley New Works Festival, as well as the Johnny Mercer Writers Colony Residency at Goodspeed Theater. He was also the recipient of Eugene O’Neill National Music Theater Conference’s Georgia Bogardus Holof Lyricist Award – given to only one lyricist every summer who exemplifies a promising career in musical theater writing. Ronvé’s music was recently featured in the Letters to the President concert at New York City’s historical Great Hall to celebrate Cooper Union’s 160th anniversary. Additionally, Ronvé was featured as a performer and writer for Rafael Casal and Daveed Digg’s (Blindspotting and Hamilton)  #BARS Workshop at The Public Theater.  You can keep up with him at ronveodaniel.com.
Jevares C. Myrick is a New York-based award winning Producer, Composer/Orchestrator Singer, Actor, Dancer, and Choreographer. Co-Creator and Composer/Orchestrator of the new, multi-award winning musical "Once Upon A Rhyme". BROADWAY CREDITS: The Book of Mormon (Current Swing, Understudy, and Dance Captain) NATIONAL TOUR CREDITS: The Book of Mormon (1st & 2nd National Tour). REGIONAL THEATRE CREDITS: Guys and Dolls (MUNY), Heart of Rock and Roll, Smokey Joe's Café, All Night Strut, Hairspray, Little Shop of Horrors, Grease, Ragtime, Ain't Misbehavin’, Sophisticated Ladies, and many more. About the Directors:

ANTHONY MARK STOCKARD  returns to Virginia Stage after having previously appeared in four VSC productions of A Christmas Carol and in The Parchman Hour as Martin Luther King Jr., How I Learned What I Learned as Langston Hughes, The Wiz as Uncle Henry, I Sing the Rising Sea as Langston Hughes and The Tempest as King Alonzo. His most recent acting credits include TV/Film: Surrogates (with Bruce Willis) Off-Broadway: Old Comedy… at Classic Stage Company; Regional: No Child… (Connecticut Critics Circle Award Winner) at Hartford Theatreworks; Intimate Apparel at Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre; The Three Musketeers at Double Edge Theatre Company; One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and A Christmas Carol at Berkshire Theater Festival; The Taming of the Shrew, Coriolanus, Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and The Four Spirits at Alabama Shakespeare Festival. Anthony holds a B.A. in Theater Arts from Alabama State University and an M.F.A. in Theatre Arts from Brandeis University. He proudly serves as director of Virginia’s most nationally recognized collegiate theatre program and America’s #1 Most Nationally Recognized HBCU Theatre Program of the last five years, NSU Theatre Company. Since his arrival to NSU, drama and theatre has gained historic national recognition and acclaim and record-breaking audience attendance. Anthony has directed more than 60 productions for professional and university stages. PATRICK MULLINS Recent directing and adaptation projects include The Tempest with music by Jake Hull and puppetry by Paperhand Puppet Intervention; The Taming of the Shrew, a synth-pop fantasia mixing Shakespeare’s text with the music of Jacki Paolella; Beneath the Surface, an immersive performance event at the Hermitage Museum and Gardens; The Tempest with music by Jean Sibelius performed with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra at Chrysler Hall; Swingtime Salute, a 1940's music revue on the deck of the USS Wisconsin; and Midsummer Fantasy Festival – an immersive Shakespearean festival/visual art installation/ performance event in Town Point Park. Patrick has directed work across the country, is a professor at Old Dominion University, and is a frequent collaborator with Norfolk State University Theatre Company. A PRESENTATION OF PUBLIC WORKS VIRGINIA
Public Works Virginia believes that all people have the right to theatre. This large scale presentation contains opportunities for all members of our Hampton Roads Community to participate at various levels regardless of prior experience. This audition round is for principal and vocal ensemble roles. General ensemble roles and puppeteering roles will be offered in our next audition round.

OLD NGOLA – African or African-American Man – Must read over 40yo. – Former ruler of Ndongo, heir to Mbandi. – Rapper/Actor

OLD NJINGA – African or African-American Woman – Should read over 40yo – 17th century Queen of the Ndongo and Matamba Kingdoms of modern day Angola. Became Queen after her brother committed suicide in the face of rising Portuguese demands for slave trade concessions. – Singer/Rapper/Dancer.

AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN – African or African-American Woman – Mid 20s to early 30s – Performs “Deep Waters”. This ballad requires being able to relate deep emotional connection. – Singer/Actor

EUROPEAN MAN – Caucasian Man – Late teens to early 30s – This track plays several roles including judge, townspeople, and slave trader. – Actor

Show us your talents!  We’re looking for singers, actors, and rappers for this Public Works Virginia production of a brand new musical on Wednesday, June 30th and Thursday, July 1 from 6:00pm-8:00pm.

    NOTE: THIS IS NOT A TRADITIONAL MUSICAL. It is written in a style far post-Hamilton. While some of the music is in a traditional style, and there are some lovely ballads, you are encouraged to bring Contemporary R&B, Pop, or Rap. We want to see you tell a story and share your skills through contemporary song styles. Please avoid classical musical theatre songs.   

    This can be sung a cappella, or you can provide an audio track from your phone to be cued up and played in the room. An accompanist will be provided, if sheet music is prepared.

Rehearsal Start Date: July 12, 2021, Times TBD upon actor conflict schedule. The bulk of rehearsals will be evenings and weekends.

STORYLINE:

Michelle is enamored with cats. When she overhears a speech from an unexpectedly inspirational exercise instructor, she decides to finally pursue her dream of cat ownership. Her roommate Wilma volunteers to go with her, and the two begin an absurd journey through the city, encountering many unexpected and illogical obstacles along the way. When Wilma experiences a terrible allergic reaction, Michelle is faced with an unexpected decision.

SEEKING:

WILMA: Female, 18-25 years old, Any Ethnicity. Wilma is a smart, nerdy young woman who loves musical theater. In college, she intended to become a theater stage manager, but became an elementary school teacher instead, in order to have more philanthropic impact. Wilma has a self-conscious demeanor and avoids conflict, but often leans into sarcasm as a safety blanket in conversation with acquaintances. She has been roommates with Michelle for almost a year now, but doesn’t know her very well. Wilma wants to be better friends; she just doesn’t know how to get past Michelle’s aloof-ness.

SHOOT DATES:

Shoots 3 Days: one day per weekend; February 27-28; March 6-7 and March 13-14. Specific dates TBD.

Kendall Cooper Casting Open Casting Call: LIMITED SERIES “DOPESICK” Filming in Richmond and Clifton Forge, Virginia!

Kendall Cooper Casting is now accepting submissions for extras to work on the upcoming limited series “Dopesick”. Executive producers are Danny Strong, Warren Littlefield and Beth Macy.

Filming will be in Richmond, VA and surrounding areas starting in December 2020 and continuing through May of 2021. There will be additional filming in the Clifton Forge, VA area starting in January 2021.

Production is seeking people of ALL ethnicities, ages, genders, sizes and types to play various extras roles throughout the series. Some roles include; Lawyers, Executives, Business Professionals, DEA/FBI Agents, Sales Reps, Doctors, Law Enforcement Officers, Local Townspeople, Miners, Bluegrass Musicians and Clog dancers. Mandatory COVID testing will be provided by production and required before any in person work. There will be a stipend provided for testing.

The Virginia Stage Company is seeking a child/teen actor for the supporting role of RK Sloane.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION: RK Sloane (male, 10-ish years old appearing – casting up to age 15)  is the youngest son of Florence and William. He is quiet and shy, but very smart. Spends a lot of his time reading books – especially about magic. The role requires periods of sitting very still inside as well as running and jumping outdoors on the lawn. It requested that a family member or guardian accompany the actor to rehearsals and performances.

In the fall of 2019 researchers discovered correspondence between Florence Sloane and the painter Douglas Volk that told of a tragic death on the grounds of the Hermitage Museum + Gardens. Join us for this immersive ghost hunting experience as we explore the letters, legal records, and psychic research collected over the past year in an attempt to understand what lies BENEATH THE SURFACE

This limited-run theatrical event is presented in conjunction with Patrick Mullins, the Virginia Stage Company, and Norfolk State University Theatre Company. Additional support from Warehouse of Theatre and CORE Theatre Company. Ages 18+

Cima Talent Management is Seeking Talent for a Music Video in Richmond, Virginia!

Submit an audition for a music video with a national recording artist, to be shot on Oct 3rd or 4th, in Richmond!   

Open to anyone age 13 and up!  

The loose idea behind the video is people hearing a song for the first time and figuring out how to move to it.

  • Are you a professional dancer? Amazing. We want you.
  • Are you a terrible dancer? Amazing. We also want you.
  • Are you a twin? We want you and your womb mate.
  • Do you have parents that are local? We want them.
  • Do you have a friend that has an amazing look? We want them. 
  • Do you have a teenager (13+) that you want to get out of the house for an afternoon? We want them.
  • Are you close with your mail woman and think she might want to be in a music video for free? We want her.

A few super important safety notes: 

  • We will be shooting everyone individually (unless you come with a quarantine mate) in a window of about 2-3 hours. 
  • We’ll be working with a very small crew in a large studio and encourage social distancing of at least six feet. 
  • We will have a Health & Safety Supervisor on set who will be enforcing mask wearing and hand sanitizing or washing as well as social distancing when possible. 
  • A covid safety questionnaire will need to be completed before coming to set, and you will have your temperature taken upon arrival before being allowed to enter set.
  • Set safety is paramount!
